Bakery Turned Wine Bar. Full Design and Build Out. Based on a Portuguese fishing shack with a contemporary nautical spin.

Type: Restaurant and Wine bar
Location: Boston, Massachusetts
Architect: Rukamathu Smith

Tinned fish and preserves above, glassware below, on a pegged timber wall that runs the length of the room.

A steel stair with a rod balustrade crosses the shelving rather than being walled off from it.

Every shelf sits on pegs, so the wall is set out to whatever is on it rather than the other way round.

Jars kept at eye level on the open shelf, where they are as much of the room as the lighting is.

Bottles stood upright on the rail above the racks, so the label is what you read first.

The ceiling is left open — conduit, duct and track all on show above the room.

Racking carried over the bar, with the pendants hung below it.

Slatted timber, with the grain running the length of the top.

A copper diving helmet hung on a chain as a light.

Guests at the bar, with the bartender in front of shelves of tins and jars lit from above.

Leather stools along a timber-topped bar with a riveted metal front, the pegged shelving lit behind it.

Every stool taken along the bar, and guests at high tables by the street windows.
